Over three days, you will learn watercolour techniques used by William Turner; the legendary Romantic painter from the 19th Century and rival of Constable. You will be able to practice Turner’s widely admired techniques that made awe-inspiring and sublime landscapes seen in museums today. During this 3-day masterclass, our expert tutor will provide you with demonstrations and exercises to master his technique and create dramatic and spectacular scenes. You will also learn about the art history behind some of Turner’s most legendary watercolours and the life of the artist himself.
You can attend this art masterclass both at our central London art studio or remotely online via our live online teaching platform.
All of our masterclasses can be learnt in our central London art studio at Sunny Art Centre or remotely online via our live online teaching platform. The live online art tuition will follow the same structure as our on-site sessions. You can, therefore, have live interactive art lessons with our expert art tutors remotely, wherever you are.
Masterclass Structure:
- Day one: Morning - Lecture on Turner’s watercolours, followed by the introduction of painting materials and set-up. Afternoon - Explanation and demonstration of light theory, values and colour theory Students practice value, edges and colour theory exercises
- Day two: Morning - Explanation and demonstration about perspective in landscape paintings, thumbnail value studies and technique exercises on Turner’s iconic paper. Afternoon – Students practice exercises
- Day three: Explanation and demonstration of Turner's landscape technique followed by students painting a master landscape copy for the rest of the day.
By the end of the art course, you will have learnt about light theory, value, colour theory, edges, perspective, brushes for specific techniques, mixing colour and different watercolour techniques. You will also have a clear historical and technical framework that you can use when admiring Turner and other Romantic artists’ work in museums and galleries around the world.
