Sunny Art Prize 19/20 – 1st Winner Exhibition Catalogue

The Golden Age exhibition catalogue includes recent works by critically acclaimed British artist Christopher Cook, first prize winner of the 2019 Sunny Art Prize. In his current extended series of graphite works on paper, Cook deconstructs and reinterprets 17th century Dutch Still life to reflect on colonialism, capitalism and social conflict. The catalogue includes an extended contextual essay by Dr. Jeanne Nuechterlein, art historian and curator of Making a Masterpiece at York Art Gallery, in which Cook’s work was featured alongside works from York’s permanent collection, and on loan from the National Gallery, London. Cook’s innovative technique and radical imagery has been collected by world-leading institutions, including the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, and Yale Center for British Art.
